A Short Guide to Competition Heels

Competition Heels

If these are your first pair of competition platform shoes here are a few things you might like to know.

Congratulations on making the decision to compete. Your shoes will play a big part in how you present yourself on stage, or more accurately, the way you walk in them.

Most girls will freak out and ring or email me to say their shoes are too small. The first thing I will ask is if they are too short or too tight. If they are too short then we can most definitely exchange them for a longer/larger pair, but if they are too tight across the plastic upper then bear with me.

These shoes need to be tight – and I mean tight – when you first try them on. The plastic upper will give very quickly and during the dieting process you will lose weight from your foot also. If your shoes are comfortable now they will be sloppy and loose when you are ready to get on stage. The last thing you want is to be self conscious and apprehensive about a pair of shoes that feel like they might slip off.

After a few days you will start to feel the shoes molding to your foot and getting a little more comfortable each time you put them on. If you want to fast track the stretching process or literally can only get 4 out of 5 toes into the upper to start with you can always use a hair dryer to heat the plastic slightly. Don’t overdo this, we don’t want them to get too stretched too soon. I have done this with my own shoes and it is amazing how soft and pliable the plastic will get after just a short time with a medium heat.

Once you are in your shoes your job is to get use to them. Practice walking in them at home – the kitchen is perfect!! We want you to look comfortable and be confident in them.

You aren’t judged on your shoes, but the way you walk in them will definitely be noticed!

Of course, if in doubt about anything regarding your shoes please email us at jorogers@styleonstage.com.au or phone us on 0413 166 924
